The First Ask Congratulates Candidates Who Have Advanced to the Virginia General Election
Washington, DC – The First Ask has endorsed seven women who have successfully won their primaries and will appear on the ballot this November as candidates for the Virginia House of Delegates.
The First Ask has endorsed the following candidates: Lily Franklin (HD-41), May Nivar (HD-57), Stacey Carroll (HD-64), Nicole Cole (HD-66), Leslie Mehta (HD-73), Lindsey Dougherty (HD-75), and Kacey Carnegie (HD-89). All of the candidates are running in districts which are currently represented by Republicans.
Executive Director of The First Ask, Caroline Welles, has made the following statement regarding the results in Virginia:
“Congratulations to these women and their campaigns on their victories! The First Ask is proud to support these amazing candidates who are committed to advocating for their constituents and creating a more equitable Virginia. This upcoming election will be crucial to the future of legislation in Virginia, with proposed constitutional amendments protecting rights such as abortion in progress. We are excited to support these candidates through November and look forward to them bringing their experience and perspectives to the House of Delegates.”
The First Ask is a 527 political action committee dedicated to identifying and enlisting Democratic women to run for State Chambers nationwide. They advocate for proportionate gender representation in state legislatures by increasing the share of women serving in legislatures from 32% to 51%.
