The First Ask Announces Their Endorsement in the Georgia Senate District 21 Special Election

Washington, DC — The First Ask has announced its support for Debra Shigley, a Democrat running in the special election for Georgia Senate District 21.

Shigley has been a community leader in Fulton and Cherokee counties as an attorney, journalist, author, and small-business owner, as well as being active in the Fulton County public school system’s parent-teacher association. The First Ask had previously endorsed Shigley during her 2024 Georgia State House run, where she ran on a platform of  supporting public education, and making the cost of living more affordable.

Caroline Welles, Executive Director of The First Ask, issued the following statement on the endorsement:

“Debra Shigley is one of the most energized and dedicated people I have ever met. The First Ask worked closely with Debra on her last run for office and I know her commitment to making the State of Georgia better for all. Debra understands the importance of supporting those around her, and the best way to give back to them. Her passion for supporting her community is unmatched and we are excited to support Debra in her candidacy.”

The First Ask is a 527 political action committee dedicated to identifying and supporting Democratic women to run for State Chambers nationwide. The organization advocates for proportionate gender representation in state legislatures by increasing the share of women serving in legislatures from 32% to 51%.
