National Women’s PAC The First Ask Congratulates Michigan Endorsees on their Success

Washington, DC – With all Michigan legislative races now called, DC-based PAC The First Ask is celebrating a series of key wins across the state. Three of the group’s endorsed candidates won their races and will be serving in both chambers of the Michigan Legislature come 2027. Among the group's endorsed women is Joanna Whaley, who will be the first openly transgender woman of the Michigan Legislature.

The First Ask congratulates the following candidates on winning their seats:

  • Joanna Whaley HD-02

  • Kimberly Fisher HD-11

  • Rebecca Amidon SD-32

Caroline Welles, Executive Director of The First Ask, issued the following statement:

“All of the women who we endorsed in Michigan have demonstrated what leadership looks like. Joanna Whaley, Rebecca Amidon, and Kimberly Fisher will start serving in the Michigan Legislature in just a few months and are committed to real change. I have seen it in every meeting, in every strategy session, and every question asked. With the split party leadership and narrow margins, effective leadership has been hard to come by in the Michigan Legislature. I know these women will do the work that needs to be done.”

These wins are just part of a larger national project, with The First Ask electing 28 women this year. These three women elected in Michigan will join Mai Xiong, another The First Ask endorsed candidate who won her seat in 2024.

The First Ask is a PAC dedicated to electing Democratic women to state legislatures nationwide. The organization advocates for proportionate gender representation in state legislatures and progressive change.
