The First Ask Proudly Supports Leslie Mehta for Virginia House of Delegates District 73
Washington, DC — The First Ask proudly announces its full support for Leslie Mehta’s campaign for Virginia House of Delegates. Mehta is currently the interim CEO of the International Rett Syndrome Foundation which provides resources and treatment support to people with Rett Syndrome. She has a law degree from Howard Law School and completed her undergraduate education at the University of North Caroline Chapel Hill. Mehta has worked in a variety of legal positions from a private law firm to working for the organizations to an administrative government job.
Caroline Welles, Executive Director of The First Ask, issued the following statement on the endorsement:
“Leslie Mehta knows the importance of protecting peoples’ rights and standing up for the Constitution. Leslie has spent her career leading with courage to defend our rights against unjust threats and power. As the lead attorney for the Virginia ACLU, she was able to advocate for reproductive freedom and eliminating bigotry. Leslie is always willing to fight for change. We are proud to endorse her and look forward to supporting her fight in Chesterfield.”
The First Ask is a 527 political action committee dedicated to identifying and supporting Democratic women to run for State Chambers nationwide. The organization advocates for proportionate gender representation in state legislatures by increasing the share of women serving in legislatures from 32% to 51%.
